Candles for Hartford, Poured in the Maryland Mountains
Poured at a candle bar inside an 1897 hotel in the western Maryland mountains, boxed on Main Street, and delivered to Hartford, CT.
Hartford has always been a city of interiors, which is good news for our trade: we pour soy-blend candles by hand in Frostburg, Maryland, and USPS brings them to Hartford doors in two to three days. Mark Twain wrote by lamplight on Asylum Hill; the West End keeps its grand Victorians warm behind stained glass; Frog Hollow's brick walk-ups have held generations of kitchen tables. This is a town that knows a long November — river fog off the Connecticut, gray weeks that ask something of a room — and then repays it with Elizabeth Park in June, when the rose garden makes the whole West End smell like an occasion. A candle answers weather like that. Ours are a soy blend, poured by hand at our candle bar on Main Street in Frostburg and boxed the same way, $17 each, six house scents. Light one against the fog and let the insurance capital handle the actuarial side of things.
The pours we'd pick for Hartford
Pour House · House Signature — Bourbon, oak, and smoke — a scent with a library and opinions, which is roughly the West End Victorian aesthetic. Twain, a man of Asylum Hill, would have approved of the smoke at minimum.
Cashmere — Musk and amber for the long gray stretch between Thanksgiving and the first Elizabeth Park roses. Hartford winters are an indoor sport; dress the room accordingly.
Fresh Linen — Cotton and green, like June in Elizabeth Park drifting through a Frog Hollow window with the sash finally up.
The six house scents run $17 apiece, and the shop boxes them as flights of three and crates of six. Beyond the house line, the full collection holds 668 candles, melts, sprays, and gifts for Hartford shelves — and gift cards land by email within the hour when choosing is the hard part.
